Richard Cushman

RICHARD CUSHMAN, although one of the best looking young men in his class, has not allowed any romantic complications to beset his life. Rick has carried on a long standing Cushman Tradition by being a very staunch Bapst supporter. Although he has not taken part in any of the major activities at Bapst, he has done more than his share of boosting for the cause. Ricky is planning to attend Maine Vocational School in Portland next year. We know he will succeed in whatever he does and will always be a credit to his Alma Mater.

1954 - 1974 US Marine Corps
Hey ... No gray hair ... what gives!

Subsequent to "boot camp" at Parris Island I was assigned to an Infantry Company at Camp Lejeune, NC. Participated in numerous amphibious war exercises throughout the world.

In May of 1956 was assigned to Drill Instructors School at Parris Island, SC, and trained future Marines for the next 18 months.

Assigned to Recruiters School in late 1957 and was transferred to Lewiston, Maine, recruiting "The Few, The Proud, The Marines". Married while in Lewiston and had two children. Brenda and Rick, Jr.

In 1960 was transferred to the 3d Marine Division on Okinawa and again was involved in war games throughout the Pacific area. The following four years were spent performing staff assignments at Norfolk, VA.

In 1965 was selected for recruiting duty once again and assigned to Albany, New York, recruiting America's 911 Force.

In 1966 was assigned to an infantry unit in South Vietnam, received a commission as 2d Lieutenant and endured thirteen months as an infantry officer.

After being twice wounded was rotated back to the States and subsequent assignment to Norfolk. Promoted to Captain and transitioned into the administrative arena.

Thoroughly enjoyed final years in the Corps in various administrative billets. Received orders to Vietnam for the third time and decided enough was enough and opted to retire in 1974.

1954 ~ 1974

Completed college and received a degree in Business.

In 1976, received an offer to direct the recreation programs aboard Camp Lejeune and accepted. This proved to be a tremendous challenging career and climbed the corporate ladder, retiring once again in 1993.

Enjoyed life playing golf, fishing and traveling.

Unfortunately, assignments in Vietnam exposed me to Agent Orange and in 1997 developed cancer that resulted in being hospitalized for the better part of that year. Fully recovered, I returned to my recreational habits and played golf on all days that ended in "y".

Divorced in 1976 and still single, I winter in Arizona and reside here in coastal North Carolina the remaining part of the year.

The great thing about our lives is ...
We were able to populate the world
with handsome and beautiful looking kids!!
